4 Things Your Family Kitchen Needs

Sharing is caring!

If you love cooking or baking, then you know just how many gadgets and tools are out there to choose from. Some of them are great, that you’ll use forever, and some others will end up in a lonely cupboard or in the bin after you’ve used them a few times.

Cooking for a family can be difficult, especially if you’re juggling work, young kids, and other commitments. So we’ve rounded up a list of great kitchen essentials that will make home cooking both more convenient and quicker.

Good knives

You really get what you pay for with kitchen knives. Invest in a good set of chef’s knives and you’ll wonder how you ever managed with anything else. Professional chef’s knives can be quite expensive so select one or two knives that can be versatile in the kitchen.

An air fryer

These fantastic kitchen gadgets have taken kitchens by storm over the last few years. They are so popular now that a lot of food companies are putting air fryer cooking times on their packaging.

Air fryers allow you to fry food with only a tiny amount of oil (if any), making food much healthier than if you’d fried it in a conventional way. There are tonnes of great air fryer recipes out there, anything from air fryer green beans to beautifully crunchy roast potatoes.

Slow cooker

When you don’t have time to cook from scratch, a slow cooker allows you to create amazing meals while you’re doing something else. Simply throw the ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, turn it on and leave it. When you get back you can enjoy a delicious meal. Popular things to cook are pulled meats, stews, chilis, and casseroles.

Microwave rice cooker

Rice can be difficult to get right. Even when you follow the recipe, you can end up with mushy rice, stuck to the bottom of the pan. Boil in the bag or individual packs of microwaveable rice have become popular but can really add to the cost of what should be a very cheap food.

Instead, get your hands on a microwave rice cooker. It looks a little like a cylindrical food container but has specially placed vents. The instructions will tell you exactly how much rice and water to use, as well as how long to microwave it. Perfect fluffy rice every time. They are really cheap to buy and will pay for themselves very quickly.

Mandoline

Unless you have the knife skills of a top chef, it can be difficult and time-consuming to slice fruit and vegetables quickly and thinly. A mandoline is a blade set into a board, you simply run the vegetable back and forth over it and it will slice it up perfectly in only a few seconds. It can really open up your cooking horizons.

Takeaways

Keeping your family fed with delicious, nutritious food can be difficult at times but you can give yourself a headstart by making sure you have the right equipment to hand.
