Must Have Items for The Busy Mom

Motherhood is easily one of the toughest gigs out there. Even after the kiddos are fully grown and out of the house, you never stop being their mom. While it is one of the most rewarding occupations that one could have, it does a number on your body. Running after the little ones day in and day out has repercussions on you both mentally and physically. Of course this is not like the typical 9 to 5 and renegotiating the terms of your contract is not an opinion. Being a mother means you put the needs of your young over your own. With that being said, moms need to be mindful to that they need a little TLC every once and awhile. Here are four must have items to help you keep your sanity and be all that you can be.

1.  Chocolate

Yes, you have read that correctly, moms need chocolate.  Believe it or not, this tasty treat is actually good for your heart. Chocolate contains flavonoid and antioxidants. Flavonoids are beneficial because they are said to be great for vascular health in that they lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the brain and heart. Keeping yourself healthy is one of the best things we can do to make sure we can provide the best care to our young ones. Might as well enjoy the process, so grab a piece of chocolate and eat up! Of course not all chocolate is created equal so stay away from the heavily processed chocolate to get all the great benefits. There is no time like the present to pop some chocolate in your mouth; your heart and brain will thank you.

2.  Books

What is a world without books? It’s no secret that as a mom, your extracurricular activities get pushed to the wayside. When the kids are sleeping, recharge your batteries with a good book. Reading gives your brain and the rest of your body a chance to decompress from the daily routine. Let’s be honest, the conversation that you had with your 3 year old is not exactly the intellectual discussion you were hoping for. Give your brain the mental stimulation it needs by picking up an interesting book. Also reading before bed is a great natural sleeping remedy, so catch up on some literature and some ZZZ’s by grabbing a book right before bedtime.

3.  Supportive Clothing

By the end of the day, you’ve exhausted your body in more ways than one. Bending over to pick up toys, folding laundry, ironing are just a few chores you do hundreds of times throughout the day. It should not be a surprise why you are sore and achy with all of the repetitive movement you are exerting. Getting clothing items such as support sleeves can make a huge impact. Compression sleeves help promote better circulation thus reducing the chances of your legs feeling sore and achy. Wear them throughout the day and you will notice the significant improvement of your physiological state at the end of the day. Wearing supportive clothing can certainly help with the day to day and even give you the extra energy to spend time with your hubby after the kiddos are sleeping, nothing like some added motivation.

4.  Coffee

Nothing gets me going in the morning like a good cup of Joe. Getting up a little bit before everyone else gives me the chance to sip and savor my favorite beverage. Having that little piece of time in the morning gets me mentally prepared for the hustle and bustle of daily life as I’m sure it does for many moms. Despite popular belief, there are some great health benefits to drinking a morning cup a coffee. Coffee helps boost energy, burn fat, and make you more efficient in your tasks. Let’s be honest getting a decent workout while trying to care for your young is pretty tough, so the fat burning aspect is definitely an added bonus. So moms, stop feeling guilty and pour yourself a mug of that delicious nectar and drink up.

As a mom, you want to give your loved ones the world. The truth is if you are not taking the time to recharge yourself, you can’t be at the top of your game. Take time to invest in yourself. Grab a piece of chocolate, read that novel that’s collecting dust, wearing supportive clothing and cherish your morning cup of coffee. Being good to yourself gives you the ability to take care of the people that matter most to you. There is no time like the present, embrace these must have items, and take motherhood by storm.
