Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, but how many of us sit down and eat something healthy?
Too often, we can forego a healthy breakfast, perhaps because we are in a rush to leave for work, or because we’re too tired to prepare something. Other excuses for not eating breakfast include:
- I have no breakfast foods in the house
- I’m not hungry
- Breakfast foods are boring
- I can’t be bothered to prepare something
But here’s the thing. There are reasons why breakfast is considered important, and there are some hidden benefits too. So, if you relate to any of these excuses, you should try to kick them into touch.
So, you might make sure you add breakfast foods to your shopping list before you head out to the supermarket, for example.
You should also resist midnight snacks if you don’t feel hungry when you get out of bed in the morning.
If you’re somebody who finds breakfast foods boring, you should do what you can to make them a little more interesting. A bowl of cereal might appear dull, for example, but if you could add a handful of nuts or some small pieces of fruit, you might find it more appetizing.

We aren’t talking about fried breakfasts, of course. As delicious as they are, they aren’t always good for our overall well-being. You can get a lot of your daily nutrient intake through such foods, with the appropriate minerals and vitamins that can boost your health and vitality. You can also boost your mental wellbeing, which is something you will be keen to focus on if you are dealing with life’s stresses and tribulations.

Have you ever felt sluggish at work? If so, it might be because you haven’t eaten a healthy breakfast. When you eat something that energizes you in the morning, you will be far more productive. Breakfast can give your body the boost it needs to get going and it’s good for your brain too. You will benefit from enhanced mental performance if you take the time to eat something, and this will help you take on the arduous tasks that befit your work and home schedule.
#3: Breakfast will give your children added brainpower

#4: Breakfast will help you make better food choices
People who don’t eat breakfast tend to reach for snacks when they get hungry throughout the day. This is less of a problem if these snacks are high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, but if they are overloaded with fat, sugar, or salt, there will be the risk of future health problems. Not only that, of course, but they will become more tired if they eat snacks that are regarded as ‘junk.’ They might then turn to more sugary snacks or high-energy drinks that will cause them to crash later in the day.
So, here’s a less obvious reason to eat breakfast. Eat something that fills you up until lunchtime and then have something healthy for lunch so you’re not reaching for snacks before dinner. If you do forget to eat breakfast, eat something nutritious, such as a piece of fruit or a veggie stick to help you get past those mid-morning hunger pangs.
#5: Breakfast is good for weight loss
Certain breakfast foods are low in calories, which is good news if you’re trying to lose weight. While other breakfast foods can make you feel full, which is helpful if you’re somebody who tends to reach for snack foods when you’re feeling hungry. A lot of breakfast foods can tick both of these boxes, so for both of these reasons, research the types of breakfast food you should be preparing in the morning. #6: Breakfast can reduce the risk of certain illnesses
Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast have a lower risk of type-2 diabetes, so this is definitely one reason why you shouldn’t overlook your morning meal. There is also evidence to suggest that people who eat breakfast are at lower risk of cardiovascular disease too. Both of these illnesses are connected to obesity so it stands to reason that other side effects of obesity can also be avoided when the right foods are eaten for breakfast.
You will also strengthen your immune system when you eat breakfast in the morning, so you will be able to fight off symptoms associated with flu and other cold-like illnesses too.
You will already understand the importance of healthy eating, so some of what we have said here might not be surprising. Still, there is a difference between knowing something and doing something, so make an effort to eat healthily for all of your meals.
