Prepping Your Home Before a Big Move

Sharing is caring!

There comes a time in everybody’s life where they realize it’s time for a change. Sometimes, these changes are small. Perhaps a new haircut or transforming your wardrobe you believe is a little more you. Other times, though, these changes are substantial, and you need to know how to prepare for it.

One of the most significant changes you can make in your life is moving house. Moving can be because of a few reasons from starting a new career, making space for a growing family, or downsizing after the kids have flown the nest. Whatever it is, there’s a tinge of sadness that seasons the optimism and excitement you feel when starting a new chapter in your life.

If you’re looking on making a move soon, then here’s how to best prepare for it before you go.

So Clean You Could Eat Off It

Unless you’re renting a student house, you can generally expect the house you’re moving into will be as clean as the day it was first bought, and whoever takes over your home once you leave will expect the same.

There has likely been years of muddy sneakers, dog drool, and spilled pasta sauce that has accumulated on carpets and tiles, and you’ll need to make these areas spic and span before you drive off into the sunset. To do this, invest in a quality carpet cleaning or floor cleaning appliance like those available from Steamaster Pty Ltd to get rid of more stubborn stains.

It’s worth mentioning that the best time to clean the floors is after everything is packed away, as this minimizes potential messes accumulating again before you’re ready to go.

The Parts That Make the Home

Without ornaments, photographs, trinkets, and other items, a house cannot be a home. It’s wise then to go through your belongings and decide which are the essential items to keep and take onto your next house.

These belongings can include essentials like furniture, beds, and sheets, but also smaller items you’ll use to decorate. However, it’s also important to remember that your new house is not the same as your old one, so make sure whatever you decide to bring along has a place it will fit. If you’re downsizing, you might not be able to fit your full furniture set in the new living room.

Whatever Won’t Fit

It’s hard to say goodbye to certain items while you declutter your home, but if you can’t take them with you, they need somewhere to go, and in most instances, you can’t just leave them behind.

This could leave you with quite the conundrum, but it doesn’t have to. Instead of throwing out anything that won’t fit in your gorgeous new residence on the lake with a moat and swimming pool (note: not the same thing) consider donating everything that won’t fit in the moving truck to charity. Not only will you save a trip to the dump, but you’ll also make some other family happy with new beds, sofas, and clothes soon enough.

Saying Goodbye

Making a big move is a significant change in everybody’s life, and while it’s sad to say goodbye to the house you’ve made into a home, you can be sure the next one will soon be filled with as many memories as before, with new ones still to come.
