One of my favorite things about going on vacation is that when we return, we’ve picked up many little trinkets and taken so many photos. From the beach, of course we’ve found treasures like beautiful shells and little pieces of sea glass. When we went to St. Lucia, we didn’t bring any of these home – most of our memories from there are in photo and video format because we ate or drank them! So the smell of fish and chips take me right back to my favorite meal we had there. It’s incredible how scent can play such an important role in our memories!
If someone were to tell me I could have a little house with everything I would ever need but it had to be within 12 hours from where I currently live, I would hands-down tell them to put me at the beach. I can imagine myself sitting on a deck, wrapped in a blanket watching the sunrise with a mug of coffee. That salty ocean water crashing against the shore, the wind picking up the scents from land and sea (someone is totally grilling and it smells amazing)… see? I can just imagine this whole thing. This is actually one of the beach vacation memories I have, it’s something I love to do every morning when we are on vacation on the east coast. So when we aren’t there, I love to relive all of my favorite vacation memories.
When I first experienced Glade® Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Fragrance Mist No.3 Free™ scent it was like it was a magical spray meant to put me into a dream. The mix of soft vanilla with beach wood and citrus fruits is everything I think of when I picture the beach. There are incredibly easy ways to relive your vacation memories year-round!
Display your photos! Get them off your phone and frame them, turn them in a collage, do something with them. I have this DIY project that’s for a graduation gift, but you could just as easily flip this into a vacation memory project! Maybe the letters spell out the vacation place, or you gradually spell out your last name and make each letter a different vacation. If you have kids, they can help select the photos to use in this project!

Make sure you buy functional souvenirs. We will likely never use our St. Lucia coasters (I don’t have a coffee table!), but from our vacation to Paris I did buy a beautiful scarf that I use daily in the winter, and several necklaces and fridge magnets. I bought these on purpose – I will actually USE them and be reminded of my vacation each time! I also made sure that we had big, beautiful seashells that we could display and turn into home decor. These jars were perfect – we added sand from the beach and a few shells and voila!

Think back to your favorite drinks, your favorites meals, the experiences you had… we’ll use another example from St. Lucia. Fish and chips… the fish, the batter, the spices, the fryer grease, the mushy peas, the fresh salt and pepper… come on, I’m starving now!
Recreate favorite moments. I’m really looking forward to warmer weather so I can take the kids to school and then sit on our back patio with my coffee and have a few quiet moments to myself. Sure, I don’t have a beach or ocean waves, but I can still close my eyes and put myself right back there!
