We love going to the beach. It’s probably our favorite family vacation and one that we remember the most. Every time that we do go, we end up spending hours combing the beach for shells, digging in the sand, and exploring he coast. Even if you don’t bring home shells, you can find shells at craft stores to use in this fun memory keepsake DIY! It doesn’t take long to put together a coastal craft like this, which is perfect for me because I’m short on time these days!
If you don’t want to display photos in this, using it as a fun piece on a decorating bookshelf looks just as beautiful. This would also make a memorable gift for a beach lover, newlyweds and their favorite picture from their honeymoon, you name it!
What you will need:
1 wooden picture frame – this cute frame with wire was a craft store find
shells of various sizes and colors
hot glue gun
Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks
Clean your shells and let them dry before you get started on this. Take some time to arrange your chosen shells so they fit on the frame nicely. This takes a bit of back and forth to get the look just right. I was super picky so this was the most time consuming part!
Once you have your look just right, carefully use your glue gun with Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks to attach the shells to the wooden frame and let dry thoroughly.
You’ll want to select shells that have some surface area for the hot glue, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind the weight of the shells! If you have favorites, glue those on first so you don’t run out of room (I say as I think about the perfect little shell that didn’t make it onto ours).
Want to make this a family activity? Gets the kids involved in the sorting and cleaning shells! They can help with the layout of shells as well. Or – purchase smaller 4×6 frames and let everyone create their own! With adult supervision this could even be a fun birthday party favor for a mermaid or beach themed party! Everyone could make their own frame early on in the party, let dry during the fun, and take home a beautiful hand-crafted favor!
