Dorm Room Essentials

If your teenager is headed to college and freaking out about what to pack, what to take, and what to forget, don’t fret! I got to ask my sister-in-law, who is now a sophomore in college, for some insight and what she absolutely couldn’t live without her first year! She had a great freshmen year and has now gone from a dorm room she shared with three other girls, to an on-campus apartment she shares with just one close friend!

Let’s dive in and look at some of the must-have comfort items for a dorm room:

Blankets, pillows – a must for drafty rooms but also for comfortable relaxing and sleeping. Keep it simple or have fun with your decor and let your student be their own designer.

A TV and Netflix subscription – Who doesn’t love Netflix? If your student won’t be coming home for weekends and school holidays, a Netflix subscription will help with boredom for sure.

A fan – I didn’t ask for much clarification on this one, but I can imagine that not everyone can agree on a room temperature so a fan sounds like a must if you like noise while sleeping, or that cool breeze while studying.

Keurig and travel mug – Don’t forget a healthy supply of k-cups, but the model with a travel mug is perfect for coffee on-the-go. Sending k-cups in a care package is also a great surprise for anyone!

Snacks – I heard the stories of the cafeteria food. Be kind to your college student and send them with plenty of snacks. Many dorm rooms allow for mini fridges, so use one wisely and keep it stocked with yogurt, fresh fruit, cheeses and milk. Snacks like crackers, popcorn, trail mix, cookies, and chips will help keep their budget in check so they aren’t relying on vending machines.

Other important essentials for any dorm room include:

A printer, ink, and paper – A small printer is perfect for any student so they don’t rely on the library or computer services offered at school and print what they need, when they want.

Clorox wipes are a great thing to take with you to give all surfaces a quick wipe before moving in. These wipes are also great for everyday clean-ups, wiping down laptops, and purse bottoms. Who knows where those surfaces have been!

Dorm room closet

Another great essential is a space-saving stick vacuum. Imagine sending your daughter to her dorm with three other girls and the amount of hair that will inevitably have to be swept up. A strong vacuum, like the Dirt Devil Vibe, is the perfect size and strength for any quick job. It’s lightweight, easy to assemble, and can fit right in any closet without being in the way!

Dirt Devil Vibe

The Dirt Devil Vibe works on both carpet and hard floors, so it’s perfect for a dorm room. Most rooms are tile, and most students bring their own rug. A few minutes each day doing some sweeping and wipe-downs will make everyone in the room happy! Because it’s a corded vacuum, you won’t have to wait for it to recharge either! Simply plug it into any outlet. The cord is just the right length for a single room, so a dorm essential for sure!

There are a lot of great products available from Dirt Devil that any college student would love to have. Not to mention, the prices are great for any budget! No student needs a giant vacuum, and space is limited, so check out the Vibe and the Quick Flip as two options.

I thought it would be great to send TWO people their very own Dirt Devil products – so one winner will receive a Dirt Devil Vibe and the other will win a Dirt Devil Quick Flip! Enter below for your chance to win!
