What The Ocean Does To Me

I was giddy with excitement as we walked the trail from our hotel to the beach. You could smell it first, then you could hear it, and then all of a sudden it was right in front of you like the photo above. The was the first time that vacation we went to the beach, and it was perfect.

Looking out over the gorgeous sand and waves and clear sky I felt at peace. I felt calm and relaxed and let it all sink in.

At night, with the moon reflecting on the water and the darkness around us, some might have been scared. I wasn’t. I again was at this relaxed state that let me think about so many things. I thought about work, I thought about my family, I thought about our finances. It felt like I could sit down with a notebook and a pen and just write out my entire life’s plan.

What was the best was when I snuck out just before sunrise and rushed to the beach. It was absolutely amazing. It was quiet, it was dark. And then the sun started to rise behind the clouds, peeking through ever so slightly for just brief moments. You could say it was spiritual. I felt as if my mom and my grandma might be there with me, walking along the surf looking at the sea shells that had come in with the tide. Watching the birds swoop down from high above, and watch the surfers start to trickle onto the beach and run out into the cold waves.

It’s a feeling I can’t wait to have again. To be so connected to myself, so calm and relaxed – it’s something I need.

What does the ocean (or another sight) do to you?
