8 Easy Ways You Can Be Happier And Healthier

Sharing is caring!

If you are on a personal journey to better your health then you are not alone. There are many people out there who want to be happier and healthier in their life. There are many ways you can do this, from working out more to eating better foods. You may be confused by the amount of information in the press about what is good for you and what to avoid. This can be a bit of a minefield to navigate. Knowing where to begin is the biggest step to take. Have a look at the article below for more tips and tricks.

Get Enough Sleep

One of the most important things you can do to better your health and well-being is to get enough sleep. As an adult, you should be aiming to get around six to nine hours of sleep each night. While you are sleeping your body and mind are busy healing themselves, if you don’t get enough sleep then this can’t happen. If you constantly find yourself tossing and turning while you sleep then it may be time to dig a little deeper. It may be down to an old, uncomfortable mattress that is leaving you with various aches and pains. Ideally, you should be changing your mattress every eight to ten years.

Drink Plenty Of Water

Something else to think about is how much water you are drinking. Your body is made up of 60% water so it is essential you keep this topped up throughout the day. If you lose too much water without replacing it then you can begin to feel the effects of dehydration setting in. If you notice a headache and lethargy setting in then it is time to reach for your water bottle. You should be drinking around two liters of water a day, this equates to around eight glasses. If you are struggling to get water in you then you could benefit from a timer water bottle. This is a water bottle with times on that tell you when to drink and when to refill it.

Watch What You Eat

Another thing to consider when it comes to your health and happiness is your diet. We’re not telling you to go on a diet or restrict what you are eating, just to be aware of the type of diet you have. You get a huge chunk of your daily vitamins and minerals from the food you eat, if you are eating the wrong types of foods then your body may not be functioning as normal. For instance, your immune system could become compromised if you are not consuming enough fruits, vegetables, and fish. In an ideal world, you should be eating around five portions of fruit and veg a day. If you are not able to do this then you could make things easier by making smoothies to drink each morning.

Get A Hobby

The key to happiness is finding something you enjoy doing and taking time for yourself. This is especially true if you have a busy lifestyle with work or kids. The time you get to yourself could be dwindling as you get older. Find a hobby that gives you something else to focus on in the evenings or at the weekends. This could be anything from learning a new language to playing an instrument. Whatever you want to do there will be something out there to help you do this. If you don’t want to do your hobby on your own then how about looking into joining a group, hillwalkers or cyclists for instance?

Socialize With Friends

When you are trying to lead a happier, healthier life it may be necessary to get out of the house occasionally and socialize with your friends. As you age, your group of friends could be going in different directions but it is essential you try and keep a couple close to you. It has been proven that if you regularly meet up with friends as you age then you are less likely to develop cognitive decline issues such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. It might seem impossible to line up schedules but it will all be worth it when you are able to.

Attend Regular Checkups

If you are trying your best to be happy and healthy then you need to be attending regular checkups. This includes all aspects of your health from cancer screenings to sight and hearing checks. You never know when something is going to crop up and if you don’t get regular checkups then this could end badly. As you age you will get called in for regular screenings, bowel, and breast for instance. Women will also be contacted for a smear test every three years to check for cervical complications.

Think About Your Mental Health

Remember, it isn’t just your physical health that you should be thinking about and focusing on. Your mental health is also a vital part of your life and if you neglect it then you could be at risk of various mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression. Your mental health should be put before your physical health as you can’t have one without the other. If you are having a down day then you will not want to get up or do anything until you are feeling better. Try and find your triggers or the things that make you feel worse than usual. If you think your problems are deeper rooted then you might benefit from seeking help from a professional.

Get Rid Of Toxicity

Finally, if you find yourself surrounded by toxic people then it might be time to get rid of them. Toxic people have a terrible habit of making everything seem like your fault, and this isn’t good for you at all. They will sink their claws in and won’t let go until they have broken you down. It may be your partner or a close friend that is the toxic person, so you might be thinking about how you won’t get by without them. The answer is, if you survived before then you will do so again.
