5 Easy Ways To Up Your Curb Appeal

Whether you just want your home’s exterior to look nicer or you’re looking to sell your home, the curb appeal and first impression of your home is vital. You know that the first impression of a home starts with the entrance and how inviting and clean it is, and the same goes for any visitor to your home. You want their first impression of your home to be a good one, so get ready to get a little dirty and invest some mone to up your curb appeal.

Here are 5 Easy Ways To Up Your Curb Appeal, for any home!

Give your windows and front door a good wash. You won’t believe it until you actually start this job, but your front door is GROSS. Use some warm soapy water and a soft cloth at first for the door and exterior window trims. You may need to go inside as well to wash the inside of the windows. If your door is made of material that will withstand a power washing, use a power washing machine to really clean up the grime, bird poo and dead bugs.

Weed all flower beds and clear out anything that’s dead, overgrown, including all pots and containers. Do you need to lay some new mulch? Add more rocks to anything? Head to the local nursery for some new plants, something that’s easy to care for and will thrive in your zone. Want to add some color? Enlist your kids to help with planting easy-to-care-for flowers and have them help with watering! Also take a look at your side flower beds and landscape borders to see if they need replaced or fixed in anyway. If you have a mailbox at the end of your drive, give it a good wipe down as well and keep the surrounding area there mowed or maintain whatever details you have there.

A more costly idea is to replace your front door, or garage door, or windows. Get in touch with contractors for estimates on these replacements. These ideas will not only cost a bit more, but will really impact the way your home looks on the outside. You could also find some savings in your heating and cooling if your windows are old and leak air, or if the door doesn’t quite close right. It doesn’t hurt to invest in your home!

Paint! Can you paint the front door (if not replacing it)? Can you paint the whole house? If it’s too far gone and really needs a serious overhaul, then it might be time to reconsider new siding. New siding is a great way to completely makeover your home. Not only will it show you care for your property, but if you are selling, a buyer may love the idea that you’ve taken such good care of the home and looked out for the details.

If you are going to pursue new siding, I suggest looking at your options. And not just the colors, but the materials and actual products available to you as a homeowner.
