Give your windows and front door a good wash. You won’t believe it until you actually start this job, but your front door is GROSS. If your door is made of material that will withstand a power washing, use a power washing machine to really clean up the grime, bird poo and dead bugs.

Weed all flower beds and clear out anything that’s dead, overgrown, including all pots and containers. Do you need to lay some new mulch? Add more rocks to anything? Head to the local nursery for some new plants, something that’s easy to care for and will thrive in your zone. Want to add some color? Enlist your kids to help with planting easy-to-care-for flowers and have them help with watering! Also take a look at your side flower beds and landscape borders to see if they need replaced or fixed in anyway. If you have a mailbox at the end of your drive, give it a good wipe down as well and keep the surrounding area there mowed or maintain whatever details you have there.

A more costly idea is to replace your front door, or garage door, or windows. Get in touch with contractors for estimates on these replacements. These ideas will not only cost a bit more, but will really impact the way your home looks on the outside. You could also find some savings in your heating and cooling if your windows are old and leak air, or if the door doesn’t quite close right. It doesn’t hurt to invest in your home!
