Need to de-stress? A day of unwinding could be what you need. While it may be possible to enjoy a day of relaxation at home, unfinished housework guilt and kids with cabin fever could quickly turn this into a stressful experience. A day out could allow you to escape to a more soothing environment. Ideally, you should try to plan a day out without the kids and avoid places that are crowded and chaotic. Just what types of days out meet this description? Below are a few examples.

Book a spa day

To truly relax, why not visit Spencer’s Spa or another spa centre in your area? Spas are designed to help visitors relax, boasting facilities like saunas and pools, as well as the option of massages. You can spend your day reading a book with a glass of sparkling wine while occasionally taking a break to use the steam room or enjoy some massage therapy. You could go with a friend or a partner. Some spas even have hotels on site so that you can stay the night.

Enjoy afternoon tea

Afternoon tea is a British tradition dating back to the 1800s. It involves a light meal consisting of an array of different flavored finger sandwiches and cakes, along with a bottomless supply of tea. Often hosted in a historic hotel or elegant tearoom, feel like a Victorian aristocrat for a few hours – and it’s often a lot more affordable than many people assume. Look for hotels and tea rooms in your area that offer afternoon tea

Take a river cruise

River cruises are another de-stressing day out idea to consider. They involve taking a guided cruise down a river and taking in the surrounding sights. Many river cruises also include lunch and drinks. You can often find river cruises in cities – where they can often be a great chance to spot landmarks – however rural river cruises also exist and may be an even more peaceful option for avoiding the buzz of a city.

Go for a leisurely walk

Going for a long leisurely walk could be another option for a day out. This could be a stroll through a city, a coastal walk or a countryside amble – depending on where you live. You could plan places to stop along the way, or you could see where you end up and add some spontaneity to your walk. You could even prepare a picnic (just don’t stress yourself out preparing this picnic).

Explore a botanical garden

Botanical gardens are free public gardens that contain a range of beautiful plants from around the world. They can be a great place to escape to when you need to relax – they are designed to be tranquil and quiet, and offer an opportunity to admire nature’s beauty and forget about all your concerns at home. See if there are any botanical gardens in your area, and plan to visit them on a warm day. Take a book to read here, bring a camera to practice your photography or even consider taking a sketchpad to practise your art skills.
