Ringing In Fall Like It’s A New Year, New You

What is it about the transition from summer to fall that makes you feel “new”? I find that every year when the kids are getting ready to go back to school, and the sports change and the days get shorter that it just feels like a good time to try new things, to refresh things, and find a new rhythm. It’s like it’s the perfect time to treat myself, to take some time for me in between the sports practices and school assignments, so I always take advantage!

I definitely fall into the stereotype of “go dark for fall” when it comes to hair color. I don’t know why! It just happens… a darker shade of blonde just goes better with the fall colors? Either way, I have used at-home coloring systems for years (we’re talking like close to 20 years), so I have my own little routine and am a great multi-tasker now that I have kids. That said though, I don’t really enjoy trying to find the right shade or making sure I have gloves and everything I need. Nobody has time for that!

With e-Salon you not only get a custom hair color, you receive a kit with everything you need! As I’m writing this I can’t stop touching my hair because whatever shampoo and conditioner they include is the bomb and my hair feels amazing! The entire process was incredibly easy – you complete a profile, upload recent photos, and a personal colorist takes everything into consideration to choose the perfect hair color for you.

The only thing I need to do is get a good trim now! e-Salon let me go from grown-out roots and blah color to a really pretty “dark blonde”. It’s a little darker than I was anticipating, but it’s quickly growing on me! I feel ready for fall… deeper colors, comfy blankets, and campfire s’mores await!

Speaking of comfy blankets and campfires, with our newly refreshed patio space, I really can’t wait to curl up with some coffee, a blanket, and a good book. It’s been on my mind to wake up earlier and enjoy quiet mornings before the day gets busy, so now I just need a few good books to make it enjoyable! A Fool’s Paradise by Robyn Williams sounds like a hit with key phrases jumping out at me like “scheming ex-lovers” “jealous co-stars”, suspense, provocative, romantic… a perfect mix of everything!

Sometimes I want a nice, juicy love story and other times I want something that grips me and pulls me in and lets me get lost in their story, don’t you? My mood is dictated by the weather and current events which in turn dictates my taste in books! Go buy A Fool’s Paradise for only $4.49 right now!

Sometimes the things I do for myself are subtle, like trying new chapstick at bedtime or a new razor when shaving. No one is going to notice but me half the time! I love plumping lip glosses (it’s the tingle, it feels so cool), so I love using GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper. The tingle was kind of intense at first but I’m trying to use it everyday because users report seeing an increase in overall lip volume in just 30 days of twice daily usage! That’s easy enough to do and something that makes me feel good. GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper is cruelty free and hydrates lips too, not just plumping benefits!

Another “just for me” self-care for fall treat is taking care of my feet! So, I love wearing flip-flops but half the time when in our backyard I’m barefoot. That means my feet don’t get the attention they deserve and I also inherited my mom’s dry feet so getting to try Kerasal Intensive Foot Repair was awesome! It is NOT an intensive process either, you simply rub it on and wear socks to bed. I’m serious, it’s that easy. It hydrates and loosens hard, dry skin. You will have visible results in 1 days (or overnight) and is a must-have for any at-home pedicure kit you put together!

For anyone who deals with damaged nails then you can check out Kerasal Multi-Purpose Nail Repair. Another simple self-care item you can add to your routine to take care of yourself. Yes, we’re going to be wearing socks and cute shoes for the fall, but don’t neglect your feet!

Lastly, a habit of mine that I will never stop is using hand sanitizer when I can’t get to a sink for soap and water. Since we are busy during the fall with football and cheer, and restroom options can be limited to smelly port-a-potties, I always have hand sanitizer with us. Born Basic is the king of minimalist hand sanitizer. There’s no flashy labels, no gimmicks, no tricks, it just is. It’s also not crazy expensive (33 ounce = $5.99, 16.9 ounce = $3.99, 3
ounce = $1.99). Born Basic is a US-based, family-owned company just trying to keep people’s hands clean and I love it! We will always have hand sanitizer with us in the car, my bag, a sports bag, or just in the kitchen for a quick germ-killing when we come home. Find Born Basic exclusively at Target (as if you needed another reason to go)!

Do you do anything in the fall that makes you feel like it’s a new year? I feel like I go through and refresh our routines, start trying new products, and spend time restocking our most-used household items. It’s like a new year every September-ish!
