I love our “middle child” dog, Tweak. Even when she chews on the toys the kids leave out while we are gone. Even when she gets a bladder infection and can’t control herself inside and I get to scrub the carpet several times. Just like a human child, I love her no matter what she throws my way. That’s my job – to love her, to take care of her. When we adopted her and her mom (Jesse), I knew we’d have “issues” like the ones I mentioned, and I knew that she wasn’t just some “thing” we could up and “get rid of” like you see so many people do. They were our family.
Just like family, and like my own children, I care about their health. As Tweak has gotten older, well, you can tell. She IS ten years old, and leading experts say that at around age 7, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change. Those changes can affect memory, learning, awareness, or decision making. A perfect example is when there’s a knock at the front door. You’d totally expect this big girl to jump up and bark, right? She sleeps. She just sleeps right on through most things, unless there’s food or a leash involved. Signs of aging, I suppose.
That’s why I love what’s available from Purina ProPlan. They have a line of dog food called Bright Mind that’s available at PetSmart. Purina ProPlan Bright Mind is specifically for dogs who are 7 or older. The enhanced botanical oils and special formula are designed to promote alertness and mental sharpness in senior dogs – those who are 7 or older.
We thought it would be fun to take Tweak with us to PetSmart to pick up her food. Check out the video of our trip – it’s from a dog’s point of view!
