Interview with an Eight Year Old: Junk Food

I feel like I knew what the answers would be to my questions before I even asked them. I allow junk food, on occasion, and always try to encourage a healthier option. But I still allow it, and I was afraid when I asked my eight year old what his favorite is, he might just start writing a novel with all of his options.

But he surprised me.

Because I don’t often call it “junk food”, Brenden was actually a little confused. While he answered “cheese puffs” and “chips”, he was still telling me he liked “apples” and “crackers”. I tried explaining the difference, showing him what we have in the pantry and what classifies as junk food.

Brenden: “Yea but I don’t eat those a lot.”

Me: “That’s GOOD! You shouldn’t eat these all the time. I’m proud of you and that you like apples so much!”

I don’t want my kids to sit around and snack on chips, pudding, and fruit snacks all of the time, so I love that Mott’s® Snack and Go products are now a staple in our pantry. Some applesauce and crackers is much more filling and fun to eat than a flimsy package of fruit snacks!

Instead of “cheese puffs”, how about some good ‘ole cheese and crackers?

Instead of fruit snacks, how about we make a fresh fruit salad?

There are so many easy substitution ideas for reducing the junk food in your house and replacing with wholesome and delicious foods.
