How To Tell If You’ve Found A Good Place To Live In Ten Minutes Or Less

Sharing is caring!

Figuring out where you should live can seem like a daunting task. There are so many things that you need to take into consideration, you’re often at your wits’ end.

Are there good schools for your children? Does the area have a community feel? What is the crime rate?

All these questions circle in your mind as you make a decision. But make a decision, you must!

In this post, we’re going to take a look at how you can cut down on the amount of time that you spend deliberating and come to a decision more quickly. Finding out whether you should live somewhere shouldn’t take weeks of your time. You can usually get a sense of whether an area is right for you in ten minutes or less.

Go With Your Gut

Finding the best neighborhood to live in can seem like a massive ordeal when you think about it consciously. You’re tempted to create a big spreadsheet and then score various locations depending on objective measures.

But that probably isn’t a good idea. After all, we are subjective beings. How we feel matters just as much to our day to day happiness as what we think.

It often pays, therefore, to go with your gut instinct. If an area feels right for you, then it probably IS a good choice. You might not be able to put your finger on the precise reason why it makes sense for you. But that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t have to be a rational thing. It can be aesthetic.

Observe Your Future Neighbours

You can discover a lot about a place by observing the way in which people conduct themselves as they go about their business. The happier and more joyful they appear, the better the community. By contrast, if everyone is hiding under their peaked caps, it is a sign that all is not well in the area.

Pay special attention to how people conduct themselves in parks. Are they wary of their surroundings? Or do they appear happy, relaxed, and satisfied?

Count The Number Of Shuttered Businesses

A bright sunny day of house viewing can mask a lot of financial problems in a community. It beautifies everything and temporarily papers over issues.

Shuttered businesses, however, are an indication of the state of the economy in a particular area. The more firms that are closed, the worse the local economic conditions, and the more likely there will be deprivation.

Make A Note Of The Local Businesses In Operation

Of course, practically every community in the country is able to support a local business of one kind or another. But the form that these take can tell you a lot about the community.

If there’s a luxurious grocery store nearby, then it is a clear sign that the neighborhood is upmarket and going places. If, however, there are relatively few businesses or they are all discount stores, then it implies a different kind of person who lives in the area. This information helps to inform your decision.
