How To Clean Stuffed Animals

If your children have stuffed animals, you most likely know how grimy and dirty they can get. Stuffed animals are a great place for germs to hide, which is why it is important you take the time to properly clean them. Take a look below at some helpful tips on how to clean stuffed animals easily and effectively.

1. Spot treat.
First, spot treat the stuffed animals. Use a damp rag with some gentle detergent on it. Scrub stains in a circular motion. Use a clean rag to rinse and pat the area dry.

2. Tackle tough marks with a Magic Eraser.
Use a Magic Eraser to tackle marks on the face of the doll or animal. These work great on dolls with plastic faces. Just dampen the sponge and wipe away the marks or stains. Wipe clean.

3. Remove any accessories or clothing.
Prepare to toss the doll or stuffed animal into the washing machine. Remove any clothing or accessories first. These items are delicate and should be hand cleaned with a damp rag or eraser as mentioned above. Set aside.

4. Prepare to wash.
Stuff the animals in a nylon or lingerie bag or pillow case. This will help protect them in the wash. Add in some gentle laundry detergent such as Woolite.

5. Start washing.
Toss the entire bag into the washing machine. Wash on hot using a gentle cycle. You may also want to opt for a second rinse.

6. Dry.
Stuffed animals can be dried in the dryer if they don’t have plastic on them. If they do, allow them to air dry. Outdoors or hung from a drying rack is a great idea!
