Have you been in your home for a long time now and are thinking about making some changes? If so, you are not alone. There comes a point in everyone’s lives where they start to feel fed up with where they live, even though they don’t want to move.
When you are feeling like this, this is the perfect moment to start thinking about making some changes to make your home a more desirable place. When it comes to home upgrades, there are so many that you can make – it simply comes down to your budget and what bothers you the most. For example if you find yourself finding insects in your home, you may want to buy some window screens, to stop them from coming in. Alternatively, lighting can play a big role as well as how you decorate your walls.
We have put together a brief guide on ways to make your home a more desirable place to be. Keep reading for three different tips that may help you fall back in love with your home – or enjoy being in it that little more.
Consider lighting changes
Lighting has a much bigger impact on your home than many people realise. A dark room can feel cramped, cold and uninviting, while brighter spaces instantly feel larger and more welcoming. If you haven’t ever thought about your lighting situation or made any changes to it in a long time, then this could be a great place to start. Try introducing layered lighting, combining ceiling lights with lamps, wall lights or even LED strips to create a softer and more relaxing atmosphere. If you don’t have them already, 100% look into smart lighting as they are great – you can control them through an app on your phone or your voice if you have a Google or Alexa at home.
Declutter your space
You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference decluttering can make to a space. Spend the weekend going over each room in your home, decluttering and being ruthless when you are doing so. Start with the rooms you spend the most time in and work through them gradually. Storage baskets, shelving units and multifunctional furniture can all help you keep things tidy without sacrificing style. If you have a friend that can help, bring them in as they will make you even more ruthless than if you were doing it by yourself.
Decorate your walls
When you look at your walls, do they look bare? If you haven’t ever decorated them with pictures or paintings, then there is a lot you can do to make a change. A mirror on the wall will make a room look bigger and brighter, whilst artwork will add colour and personality. You could also repaint them, as this will quickly make a change to how they have looked for a long time. A bit of DIY is very rewarding.
