Sometimes you feel like going out with your friends, but you’ve been out of the game for a while and aren’t sure where to go anymore. The clubs you used to venture into have either shut down or changed dramatically – how do you find the best options now

Turns out it’s not as hard as you think; you just need to know what you’re looking for. All of the best clubs share the same three features:

Music You Actually Like Listening To

There’s not a lot worse than a club that plays the same sort of songs over and over. Once you’ve heard one EDM song, you’ve heard them all. The best club will give you a selection of tunes across lots of genres, ensuring there’s usually something you enjoy listening to. If you want, you could even find a club with a specific theme – like playing songs from the early 2000s, or exclusively playing a particular genre that all of your friends like. It’s much easier to enjoy your night out when the music is somewhat decent.

Live Entertainment

Blaring music through speakers isn’t the only way for clubs to provide a great experience. Some of the best clubs will offer exclusive guest performances through live entertainment. This means bands or DJs take to the stage and transform the club into a concert. It’s something you should really look out for, especially if one of your favorite artists is playing at a club one night. The obvious benefit of this is that you’re guaranteed to enjoy the entertainment – but it also means you’re more likely to be in a club with people of a similar demographic. There’s nothing worse than standing in a club and getting the realisation that everyone is way younger than you. It happens when you’re in your early twenties, and nothing ever makes you feel older.

A Good Crowd

Spilling over from the previous point, the club’s crowd can make or break the experience for you. As mentioned, you don’t want to visit a club where everyone is barely making it into college. Likewise, you’d rather not go somewhere where they let everyone and anyone in. You’re out for some drinks and dancing with friends, maybe for one of their birthdays, so the last thing you need is people starting fights or getting sick everywhere. This might come across as elitist, but the best clubs offer exclusivity. You should be able to book a table or a booth, rather than just stand in line and hope to be let in. Clubs like this don’t get overcrowded and usually provide a more friendly crowd that doesn’t create trouble.

There’s no reason you can’t head out for a night with your friends and enjoy some music and drinks in a club. People always assume that this is a terrible experience once you turn 20, but that’s because they keep visiting the same clubs they went to as teenagers! You need to broaden your mind and look for more mature club settings that tick the boxes above.
