Besides hanging out near a toilet, or near a pillow for a nap, I’ve been good! I had my first appointment, which wasn’t really a prenatal visit as much as it was just medical history and getting my pre-pregnancy weight. The nurse, ironically, is my ob/gyn’s MOM. She was incredibly friendly and reassuring, and understood my concern after four years of trying and one loss. She said I’m in good hands, but he is her son afterall!
As far as the nausea, man, I’m kind of over it already. It’s not really run-to-the-toilet-oh-my-god-I’m-going-to-explode, it’s a weird feeling in my throat, and most of the time I end up gagging a couple of times before anything happens. It’s like I have to help it along. I also learned that drinking plain water (tap, bottled, filtered, doesn’t matter) makes me throw up. I’ve caught myself going to get a drink from my bottle and cringing. I have to stay hydrated, so I tried some Gatorade, and well, that didn’t help either. As the day goes on, I usually feel a lot better though.
One thing that is super annoying is the HORRIBLE taste in my mouth! It’s not metallic, it’s more like funky nasty. I can’t even describe it! I’ve tried brushing my teeth (and tongue), gum, hard candy, juice, and eating and it only helps for a bit. Oh it’s so gross! It really doesn’t help the nausea either!
So far, for comparison sake, this pregnancy’s nausea is a lot different from my pregnancy with Chubbs. With Chubbs I would get these horrible hot flashes that were my cue to get to a toilet (or bush if outside). I couldn’t keep ANYTHING down with him, and actually went to the emergency room for dehydration. I don’t have those hot flashes, I can keep food down, it just doesn’t feel as bad this time around. People keep telling me that means it’s a girl, but who knows. I only hope our 20ish week ultrasound gives us a VERY good gender shot!
