I love a good book. No, I love a good book store. That smell when you walk in the door, the hushed whispers from other customers (because we all act like we are in a library even though we aren’t), the sound of the register ringing up new adventures and romances. For as long as I can remember, I have loved reading. I was that kid in school who was reading beyond their grade level, with my nose always in a book. It continued through high school, because no one uses study hall to actually study. By the time I was in high school, I was delving into Harlequin novels and wasting any money I earned buying the newest ones. The library was my second home. Many afternoons at school were spent there, browsing the shelves, whispering with my friends, and leaving with yet another book to read.
I still love reading today, but now my time is more limited. I no longer wander about the book stores or the libraries, there just isn’t enough time. The kids want to be noisy in the stores, and the library isn’t a place for two preschoolers who can’t sit still. We all love books though, but right now we can skip the brick and mortar shops and shop online. Places like Thrift Books come to my rescue!
Thrift Books is a used book marketplace with over 7 MILLION books, all on an accurate and honest grading scale for condition. What’s even better, is that they offer FREE SHIPPING for orders over $10 in the US (and if you love books, this is super easy to score). Orders are shipped within 24 hours – my order arrived quickly, in the orange polybag you see in the photos, right to my doorstep without having to step foot in a bookstore and disturb others with my kids!
In September we are headed on vacation. This vacation includes a 10+ hour drive to get there and to get home. In between passing out snacks, changing the movie in the DVD player, and providing my awesome GPS skills (someone tell my husband that I do NOT suck at this!), I want to read. I also want to read on the beach. Now, because I’m a fast reader, I need a lot of options. Here’s a lot of my top choices plus a few books I’ve already read, but recommend if you want a good vacation read!
Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn
Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, Crystal Paine
Look Again, Lisa Scottoline
Halo: Broken Circle, John Shirley (hubs picked this)
Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus (have tissues handy)
Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman (I read this before watching the show and am HOOKED)
The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
Ketchup is a Vegetable, Robin O’Bryant
The Husband’s Secret, Liane Moriarty
Divergent series, Veronica Roth
The One and Only, Emily Giffin
Blue, Lou Aronica
The Nine, Katie Femia (what?! Not on Thriftbooks, but a great read!)
