Tips for Organizing Your Closet

We all have ambitions of organizing those closets, but getting it done is another story. Because organizing all of the closets in my house is a MUST DO, I thought I would share some of my best tips. Here are ways you can organize your closet without feeling overwhelmed.

Ditch the Clutter

Unless you part ways with some of those items in your closet, it will never become the organized oasis you dreamed it could be. Ditching the clutter in your closet is as easy as getting rid of items you haven’t worn in at least 6 months. While it may be hard to part with those items, it’s more painful to see them just sitting in your closet.

Have a Plan in Mind

Most homes have an average of 3-4 closets. That means there are several little tiny rooms in your home begging for your attention. Once you get those closets organized, how will you keep them organized? Have a plan in mind to keep your closet from reaching the o-so-chaotic-state again!

Get a Closet Organizer

If everything you have done to organize your closet has failed in the past, it’s time to look into getting a closet organizer. Honestly, you can buy these on Amazon or at a local store and you don’t have to spend a ton of money. If you’re really trying to save money, just use hangers and baskets you already have at home.

Less is More

Simplifying your closet is really about having less. Give yourself a quota on items you’re allowed to have in your closet. If it can only fit ten pairs of shoes, then that’s all you can allow yourself to have. If you do buy another pair, then you have to get rid of an old pair. Remember that less is more when you’re trying to tame that closet chaos.

Make Everything Visible

In my opinion, shoving everything into airtight bags and putting them into the back of your closet doesn’t help organize your closet. Instead, it helps hide clothing that you will hold onto for several more years. Making sure everything is visible in your closet is one way to keep it organized. Don’t hide items in the nooks and crannies of your closet, it will only enable an unorganized closet.

Make Organizing a Frequent Habit

You don’t have to spend every hour of every day organizing your closet, but do make a habit of organizing it at least once a month. Waiting until your closet is overflowing with items will only hinder your ability to keep it pandemonium free.
