Following The Rules

Your employer should have put some clear signs in place regarding what the rules are around health and safety in the workplace, and should have trained you on this matter as well. It is therefore now down to you to ensure that you are following these rules, as that is going to be core to keeping yourself safe. It also means that you can show that you are doing everything asked of you –  which might be important if you ever need to present any evidence to a personal injury attorney or in court during a case.

Using Appropriate Equipment

A lot of this will be covered by the rules, but in general you should make sure that you are using the appropriate equipment provided by your employer in order to do your work. If there is anything obviously wrong with any item of equipment, or you feel that you need more training in how to use it, you should tell your employer so that they are able to help you out. This is part of your deal in keeping safe, and as long as they keep up their side of the bargain, you should be able to keep much safer.

Look After Your Health

In general, taking care of your health is going to help as well, and will ensure that you are going to be a lot more likely to actually be safe at work. There are lots of reasons why this is the case, including the fact that you are going to have so much more in the way of energy, will be more likely to use your body appropriately, and in general you will find that you are considerably more able to work with ease. So good self care in and out of work is vital in all this.

Raise Any Issues

If there are any health or safety issues at work, you should be sure to raise them with your manager as soon as possible. If nothing happens, you might want to go above their head, and it might end up with you even blowing the whistle. But all in all, it’s important that you keep your safety at the core of what you are doing, and that you follow the procedures as they are laid out first and foremost.
