Injections have long been used to treat a range of health problems. However, they can have cosmetic applications too. Below are some modern ways in which injectables can improve your physical appearance.

Acne

If you have a serious case of acne, it may be possible to treat it via cortisone injections. These injections involve using steroids to speed up healing – helping to reduce inflammation and shrink cysts and nodules. They can also help to reduce the risk of acne scarring. To undergo this treatment, book an appointment with a dermatologist. They will be able to tell you if you are a suitable candidate and then schedule injections. This may be possible to do in one session, but in some cases follow-up sessions may be needed.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis can cause dry scaly skin, while also causing pain around the body. A lot of people with this condition do not realise that it is often treatable with injections such as biologics and methotrexate. The latter is typically administered by a dermatologist and can help clear up plaques and inflammation in several sessions. Biologics on the other hand may be possible to administer oneself at home and may require injections on a more regular basis. A dermatologist can advise you on the best method for you.

Obesity

Being obese can cause all kinds of health problems, however the impact it has on our appearance is often what drives us to make a change. It’s now possible to get weight loss injections to help shed the pounds. These injections contain substances like semaglutide, which suppress the appetite. To be eligible for such injections, you often need to have a high BMI and weight-related health condition. You may also need to prove that you have tried other weight loss measures unsuccessfully.

Hair loss

Did you know that it’s possible to treat hair loss with injections? PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatment is a procedure that involves injecting one’s own blood into the scalp to stimulate hair regrowth. It is often used to treat male pattern baldness, hair thinning and alopecia. Those who have recently undergone a hair transplant may also be recommended for PRP to help encourage hair regrowth. This treatment may not be possible for those who have already been bald for a long time. A skin and hair clinic in your area may be able to carry out this procedure, as well as recommending other potential treatments.

Wrinkles

Many people seek out injections to help reduce wrinkles. This includes Botox and fillers. What is the difference? Botox works by effectively paralysing muscles and can be used to reduce certain dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Filler injections instead involve filling out areas with an organic substance – they can be used to combat folds in the face and static wrinkles. Both Botox and fillers only have temporary effects, so you will need to keep getting injections every few months to stop your wrinkles from returning. Cosmetic surgery may be a more long-term solution.
