Winter weekend adventures can totally be a thing! In the summer or spring, we tend to make every weekend fun and activity-filled, but when it’s freezing out we tend to stay indoors. So, I’m going to show you how (if the roads are drivable and safe) you can totally head out this winter for a weekend of fun with the whole family! I’m staying in Ohio for my winter weekend of fun, but you could easily plan a trip like this in your own state!
Top 3 Family-Friendly Winter Weekend Activities:
- What’s better in the winter than hot chocolate? How about a hot chocolate and treats food tour? I won’t tell you where to start your trip, but a few places to check out would be:
- Winans Fine Chocolates and Coffees has locations all over, including Troy and Piqua, Ohio. Get a delicious hot chocolate or coffee and try some chocolates!
- I’ve heard good things about the Chocolate Cafe in Columbus, Ohio and being in the state’s capital, you could easily head here and do the whole delicious hot chocolate and treats tour!
- In the Cleveland area, check out Sweet Moses! Treats galore here — if only it were closer to us, I would love to go!
- If sweets aren’t your thing, how about a road trip around Ohio for ice skating and sledding? Check out the extremely popular Mad River Mountain in Zanesville, Ohio! It’s only about an hour’s drive from the Columbus airport. For ice skating, there are several indoor and outdoor options depending on your preference. Look in any big city (Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland) for outdoor options and smaller places like Troy for indoor arenas.
- Want something that’s indoors and going to burn tons of energy? Check out a few places that have bounce houses and trampolines! Sure, you can do these year-round but no one is going to complain if you combine a few of the above ideas into an epic weekend of fun and delicious eats!

It’s fun to check out local places, but it’s even more fun to go somewhere completely new and really explore the fun family activities to enjoy in the colder temperatures and snow. This list makes me want to create my own winter bucket list, with specific activities like sledding and winter bonfires that can only happen this time of year!
