Date Night With the Hasbro Game Channel on XBox One

Sharing is caring!

Video Game Date Night with the Hasbro Game Channel on XBox One

Our family loves to play video games. I really think it stems from the fact that both myself and my husband grew up with them, and then many “date nights” were spent playing games with our friends. It’s natural that when we’re stuck inside, we pull out a controller and play a game. But when the kids go to sleep… so does the family fun and out comes the real competition.

You see, I hate losing. I really hate it. I’m a very sore loser.

Video gaming can be a great date-night-in activity for couples, so I wanted to share with you how our most recent date night went.

For Christmas, like many other technology loving folks, we got ourselves an XBox One. The ability to add all kinds of apps and games is incredible, but one of those is the Hasbro Game Channel. It’s a built-in destination right on your XBox One console that lets you explore family-friendly games that are available for download (once you purchase them). It’s pretty neat because you don’t need a physical disc, the games are stored right on your consoles hard drive.

Our first game choice (one that we can play just the two of us, or bring in our almost 10 year old to teach him how to play) was Monopoly Plus. I’ve always been a fan of Monopoly… even though I don’t think I’ve ever won a single game. Anyway.

Monopoly

Here’s my first suggestion for an overall better experience while playing this game: don’t pick the cat. Just don’t. Almost every time we rolled the dice, they would knock my poor cat over. And when you’re losing, it just adds insult to injury. And it’s really irritating when your husband is clearly beating you in the game, and then knocks your cat over.

It took a few turns to get the hang of the different screens that come up, but it’s a pretty simple design and you learn quickly what to do and what buttons to push for buying properties and bidding in auctions.

Another tip for having a successful video game date night? Just have fun! Had I kept my mouth shut and not got irritated at the game, and not spoke my mind about always landing on Ian’s properties and having to pay him, the game would be boring. You know how you “get into it” and have friendly banter? That. Just let yourself have fun – whether your married or dating – just let yourself get into the game and have fun. It’s so worth it.

Be sure to check out the games that are available and schedule your own video game date night! We’ll be back to the Hasbro Game Channel again for another round of Monopoly. Once my ego heals.
